Position Overview:

As a Lead Early Childhood Educator at Dodge County Head Start, you will take charge of designing, organizing, and executing a preschool education program that is developmentally suitable for children. Your primary focus will be on addressing the unique cognitive, motor, social, and emotional requirements of each child enrolled. This role entails managing the classroom environment to foster a positive, healthy, and secure learning atmosphere, implementing the early childhood education curriculum, and collaborating closely with families. You will also ensure adherence to program guidelines, performance standards, and childcare licensing requirements.

Reporting Structure:

Supervisor: Education Specialist

Direct Reports: Teacher Assistant

Collaborative Relationships: Program Director, Mentor Teacher/Coach, Parent, Family, & Community Engagement Specialist, & Health Specialist

Key Responsibilities: Family Engagement and Support

  • Implement the Creative Curriculum effectively in both classroom and outdoor settings, aligned with individual learning goals.
  • Guide children through activities and ensure smooth transitions.
  • Provide personalized attention and develop customized lesson plans for each child.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
  • Supervise and mentor classroom staff.
  • Engage families actively in their children's educational journey.
  • Ensure the safety of children at all times.
  • Implement food service protocols and serve meals in a family-style setting.
  • Model positive interactions and mediate conflicts as necessary.
  • Support the recruitment and enrollment of children.
  • Promote cultural diversity and inclusivity within the educational program.
  • Communicate effectively in English with children, parents, and the community.
  • Address inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with program staff to uphold a safe environment.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities: Operational Duties

  • Gather and compile necessary data for reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies and standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for each child.
  • Assist in documenting program requirements.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards and regulations.
  • Foster professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Attend training sessions as required.
  • Follow licensing and program protocols.
  • Conduct routine tasks to support center operations.

Required Qualifications/Certificates/Licenses:

  • AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with current automobile insurance.
  • Strong understanding of child development principles.
  • Proficient in communication and basic mathematical skills.
  • Pass required background checks and examinations.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Licenses/Certifications:

  • BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in preschool or elementary education.
  • Experience in a supervisory role.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Basic proficiency in Spanish or bilingual skills.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Engagement in physical activities throughout the day.
  • Assistance with transportation and playground supervision.

Equipment Utilized:

  • Office Equipment: Telephone, computer, fax, calculator, etc.
  • Cleaning and educational materials.
  • Outdoor play equipment.
