Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Operations Leader:

  • Enhance and organize systems for managing payroll data and leave policies.
  • Oversee the complete bi-weekly payroll cycle for all staff, including data entry, wage calculations, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Manage timekeeping systems and ensure timely submission of timecards.
  • Confirm all overtime hours with relevant management.
  • Conduct internal payroll, benefits, and accounting audits periodically as needed.
  • Maintain the general ledger for payroll transactions.
  • Keep payroll records and employee files up to date, providing necessary documents to HR.
  • Establish new state and local tax jurisdictions as required.
  • Facilitate the onboarding of new hires in the payroll system, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal laws concerning payroll processing, tax filings, and reporting.
  • Guarantee compliance with additional legal and regulatory standards related to payroll.
  • Oversee commission plan payroll processing and provide necessary support.
  • Manage enrollment and modifications for inside commission plans, including reporting and communication with management.
  • Optimize payroll functions within the HRIS.
  • Prepare and disseminate the annual payroll calendar.
  • Address employee inquiries regarding payroll issues, deductions, and tax information promptly and professionally.
  • Train and assist payroll staff, ensuring clarity in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with finance and other departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll data with financial systems and overall operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for a Successful Payroll Operations Leader:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with a focus on Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll processing is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills; experience with payroll software is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll procedures, regulations, taxes, and best practices.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and privacy with discretion.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
