The Electrical Project Engineering Lead utilizes expertise and experience to oversee projects and manage team members. This role involves assigning and directing electrical engineering tasks in alignment with facility priorities and strategic objectives. The Engineering Lead establishes clear roles, responsibilities, metrics, and performance standards for team members. Additionally, the Engineering Lead plays a crucial role in identifying and planning future projects. Responsibilities also include implementing new designs and enhancements to electrical systems. The Engineer will oversee multiple projects from inception through to commissioning and closure, focusing on capacity, process, and reliability improvements across various facility areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams to define project scope and requirements.
  • Develop and manage project scope, resource allocation, budget, and timelines.
  • Prepare capital authorization documents.
  • Create specifications and assess technical engineering and equipment bid proposals.
  • Manage engineering, equipment procurement, and installation contracts.
  • Coordinate and oversee installations and outages.
  • Monitor and report on project performance, timelines, and budget adherence.
  • Review design documentation and drawings for compliance with contract specifications and Kaiser standards.
  • Collaborate with internal Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Engineering teams to achieve project goals.
  • Participate in the final verification of new installations, including factory and site acceptance testing to ensure compliance with functional specifications.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment control and electrical systems.
  • Identify and prioritize project needs to support the facility's electrical infrastructure.
  • Direct resources to support ongoing improvements in electrical safety initiatives and compliance with Kaiser’s electrical standards.
  • Contribute to future capital project planning by updating and developing lists of electrical systems needing upgrades, including automation opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide team members to ensure consistent output that adheres to Kaiser processes, standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Adhere to all Safety, Quality, and Environmental Regulations.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSET) is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Proven experience managing projects within a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in developing functional and performance-based specifications.
  • Familiarity with electrical and control system design, including key documentation such as schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, P&ID, and control narratives.
  • Knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, AC/DC motors and drive systems, as well as the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E.
  • Understanding of control system theory, instrumentation, PLC-based control systems, and safety systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, including knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and MS Project.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
