Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6AM-3PM

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate

Role Summary:

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is dedicated to providing stable housing and essential services for individuals facing housing insecurity. Our Urban Hygiene Centers offer individuals experiencing homelessness access to showers, toiletries, and laundry services in a clean and respectful environment. As an Urban Hygiene Services Associate, you will play a vital role in supporting patrons on-site. This position involves approximately 25% customer interaction, 10% administrative tasks, and 65% cleaning duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Interaction:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Schedule appointments for the use of showers and laundry facilities.
  • Oversee the use of facilities by patrons and provide assistance as needed.
  • Distribute personal care items based on availability.
  • Manage towel distribution and ensure compliance with agency protocols.
  • Monitor patron behavior and enforce facility rules to ensure safety.
  • Mediate conflicts and apply effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Document incidents and report them to the Program Coordinator.
  • Provide information and referrals to patrons as necessary.
  • Coordinate with community agencies for additional patron support.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain a daily log of activities at the Urban Hygiene Center.
  • Restock and organize cleaning and consumable supplies efficiently.
  • Inventory hygiene supplies and ensure proper management.
  • Collect and update demographic and usage data for patrons daily.
  • Keep a record of towel and supply usage.
  • Adhere to agency procedures as outlined in the Urban Hygiene Center Manual.

Cleaning Responsibilities:

  • Execute cleaning tasks according to the established schedule, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
  • Report maintenance or repair issues to the Team Leader promptly.

Additional Expectations:

  • Collaborate effectively with the Team Leader, Program Coordinator, and volunteers.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Team Leader or Program Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry.
  • Successful completion of background checks and drug screenings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in home health, social services, or janitorial roles.
  • Background in a social service environment, such as shelters or transitional housing.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with Safe Harbors database.

Upon Hire:

  • Completion of background checks and drug screenings.
  • Verification of TB Skin Test or Chest X-ray within 7 days.
  • Physical exam and First Aid/CPR certifications within 90 days.
