Assistant Professor of American Sign Language

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of American Sign Language to join our faculty at the University of Northern Colorado. This tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching ASL courses, coordinating the online Teaching ASL MA program, and contributing to the development of ASL programs.
Responsibilities:- Teach ASL courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Coordinate the online Teaching ASL MA program
- Contribute to the development of ASL programs, including the ASL Minor and ASL coursework
- Recruit and support teaching staff
- Oversee and contribute to the development and delivery of courses and programs
- Advise students
- Identify and supervise field placements
- Evaluate student outcomes
- Conduct program evaluations
- Work with community members and leaders
- Conduct research
- Participate in national, state, college, and university-wide professional activities
- Earned doctorate in linguistics, Deaf Studies, education, foreign language instruction, or an appropriately related field
- Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience
- Certification by the American Sign Language Teachers Association is preferred
- Experience teaching college-level ASL courses via face-to-face and distance methodologies is preferred
- Experience working with students from diverse cultures is preferred
- Proven track record of successful teamwork is preferred
- Evidence of scholarship, national and state leadership, and/or grant activity is preferred
- Prior program administration experience, including recruitment and retention of students, is desired
- Excellent communication skills, including ASL and English, and strong interpersonal skills are critical for this position
- Experience or willingness to become proficient in grant writing and administration is helpful
- Sophisticated knowledge of technology applications in educational programs is necessary
