Job Overview

The dual role of Operations and Monitoring Specialist encompasses a variety of technical responsibilities aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, production, and testing environments. This position is pivotal in delivering Tier I (Help Desk) and Tier II (Escalation) support, which includes identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues. The role involves effective communication of status updates to management and internal stakeholders, as well as monitoring, analyzing, and reporting data. When necessary, the position also entails performing equipment repairs. Assigned tasks will require the use of various engineering and scientific documentation, including drawings and manuals. Please note that this role requires working in shifts.

Essential Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency or familiarity with operating systems such as Solaris, AIX, Red Hat, IRIS, and Microsoft Windows (2000, XP, 2003), as well as virtualization technologies like VMware, SharePoint, and Citrix.
  • Experience in monitoring system performance and health.
  • Ability to document issues and resolutions using a tracking system.
  • Experience in performing administrative tasks and providing technical support to remote users under the guidance of a team leader.
  • Familiarity with Tier I support tasks, including general troubleshooting, user account management, and remote software installations.
  • Willingness to work on a shift schedule.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience collaborating with software development, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance teams.
  • Background in Agile methodologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of shell scripting languages such as Bourne, C, Krone, Bash, and Perl.
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, Cisco switches and routers, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, and storage solutions.
  • Experience in incident response using an Incident Management System.
  • Prior experience in Tier II support, including incident prioritization and root cause analysis.
  • Tier III experience in system administration to address deficiencies in software packages.
  • Ability to interface directly with customers and program management teams.
  • Experience in providing updates to program management and contributing to customer status reports.
Certifications
  • Certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA, CCNP), and Microsoft certifications (MCP, MCDST, MCSA).
  • Compliance with DoD M at IAT Level I.
  • ITIL certification is preferred.
