Position Overview

The Critical Care Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care through thorough assessment, development of care plans, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals within the hospital framework. This role also involves mentoring staff and directing nursing practices in critical care units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive care plan tailored to the unique needs and objectives of each patient, making referrals to additional services as necessary. Adjusts the care plan based on ongoing assessments and patient responses to treatments, while delegating tasks to team members in accordance with their qualifications.
  • Monitors, records, and implements planned interventions, ensuring effective communication of the care plan to all team members through precise documentation in the electronic medical record and, when required, verbal updates. Maintains accurate patient records in line with established policies and regulatory standards.
  • Assists in medical procedures as directed by attending physicians.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the equipment and protocols used in critical care environments.
  • Administers medications promptly and accurately, adhering to physician directives and organizational guidelines. Stays informed about medication effects and potential side effects, recognizing allergic reactions and documenting patient responses.
  • Facilitates patient transitions by conveying the latest care plan during rounds and providing detailed reports to incoming staff.
  • Informs physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and family members of any changes in patient status or unusual findings, ensuring clear and concise communication.
  • Delivers clear and specific educational and discharge instructions to patients and their families.
  • May mentor new staff and supervise other team members. Participates in departmental meetings.
Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Associate of Science degree from an accredited nursing program by the time of hire.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum: None required.
  • Preferred: Two years of relevant experience.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Registered Nurse license valid in Indiana.
  • Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within six months of hire (AHA).
