Position Overview

The Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care by conducting assessments, developing and executing care plans, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals within the hospital framework. This role also involves mentoring staff and overseeing nursing practices in critical care units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive care plan tailored to the unique needs and objectives of each patient, making referrals to additional services as necessary. Adjusts the care plan based on ongoing assessments, including the patient's response to treatment and progress towards goals, while delegating tasks to team members as appropriate.
  • Monitors, records, and implements planned interventions, ensuring effective communication of the care plan to all team members through precise documentation in the electronic medical record and verbal updates when required. Maintains compliance with documentation standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists with medical interventions as directed by attending physicians.
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of equipment and procedures relevant to the critical care environment.
  • Administers medications accurately and promptly in accordance with physician directives and organizational protocols. Stays informed about medication effects and potential side effects, recognizing allergic reactions and documenting patient responses.
  • Facilitates smooth patient transitions by communicating the current care plan during handoffs and providing thorough, timely reports to incoming staff.
  • Informs physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and family/significant others about any changes in the patient's condition or unusual findings, ensuring clear and concise communication.
  • Delivers comprehensive educational and discharge instructions to patients and their families.
  • May mentor new staff and supervise other team members. Participates in departmental meetings.
Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Associate of Science degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum: None required.
  • Preferred: Two years of relevant experience.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Indiana.
  • Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within six months of employment (AHA).
