Job Description

As a Government Affairs Professional at The Jed Foundation, you will play a critical role in coordinating and implementing advocacy strategies focused on state and local policymakers. Your expertise will be essential in building and implementing advocacy campaigns, developing relationships with elected officials, managing coalition engagement, and executing communications strategies for advancing advocacy priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute impactful advocacy strategies in collaboration with the Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy and other staff.
  • Advocate for state and federal policies and legislation that strengthen schools-based mental health and suicide prevention approaches.
  • Monitor and react to state and federal mental health policies and developments.
  • Identify and manage relationships with elected officials to achieve JED's advocacy priorities and goals.
  • Work with the communications team to communicate advocacy messages to various audiences.
  • Support the Director in managing student internship programs in mental health policy, ensuring meaningful learning experiences.
  • Ensure all government affairs work incorporates principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and considers diverse populations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in mental health, health, or disability policy.
  • Exceptional persuasive writing ability, strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • Alignment with JED's guiding principles and mission.
Travel and Work Environment
  • Must be able to be in DC for weekly in-person meetings, Hill days, Conferences, etc.
  • Travel ~30%.
