Job Summary:
As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente team, the successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of a large unit or multiple units, ensuring that staff provides high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care to patients across the continuum. This role requires a strong leader who can implement and maintain clinical practice standards, budgets, and staff development initiatives that align with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the operations of a single or multiple units, ensuring that staff provides the highest quality of care and adheres to regulatory requirements.
  2. Collaborate with the physician team leader, department chief, and nursing manager to develop patient services and day-to-day operations of the department.
  3. Implement and maintain patient care and quality service standards to meet member and internal client expectations.
  4. Act as a patient advocate, resolving patient care issues and ensuring that patient needs are met.
  5. Recommend and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient care results across the continuum of care.
  6. Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and resource allocations, identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve quality of care.
  7. Manage and resolve human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety, and risk management issues.
  8. Determine the appropriate staff mix for the department and develop processes to screen, interview, hire, train, and maintain the competency of all department staff.
  9. Provide ongoing staff development and implement departmental policies and procedures that support the organization's goals and business objectives.
  10. Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions or to change positions from salaried to hourly pay status.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
  2. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  3. Bachelor's degree in nursing or a health-related field, or four (4) years of nursing experience.
  4. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  5. Registered Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification required.
  6. Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  7. Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous nursing experience in outpatient care.
  2. Clinical specialization in the area of practice preferred.
