Job Summary:

The Wake County Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coordinating Teacher, Behavior Intervention Coach to join our team. This role will play a critical part in building the capacity of school-based staff to sustain the implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), inclusive of the Behavioral Health Standard Treatment Protocol (STP).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support district-level goals related to reducing disproportionality in the identification for special education and related services and discipline.
  • Provide behavior coaching and support to school-based staff.
  • Develop and maintain a data system to monitor the implementation of core instructional practices and supplemental interventions to minority students in order to reduce the disproportionality resulting in overidentification and disproportionate discipline of minority students for special education and related services.
  • Analyze data to determine schools in need of focused behavior intervention with the target of reducing disproportionality of minority students.
  • Build the capacity of school-based staff to sustain the implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), inclusive of the Behavioral Health Standard Treatment Protocol (STP) to identify needs of evidence-based behavior interventions and practices and/or special education and related services.
  • Collaborate with district departments in the development and deployment of professional learning/development activities for school administrators and general/special education teachers.
  • Function within state and federal guidelines for MTSS and Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, General Education, Counseling, or directly related field from an accredited university.
  • Five years of successful K-12 teaching or counseling experience.
  • Experience in assessing student needs; planning, developing, and implementing targeted interventions; evaluating targeted interventions and their effectiveness; and in designing and conducting professional staff development.
  • Hold or be eligible to hold North Carolina Professional Educators License for Special Education, General Education or directly related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Special Education, General Education, or directly related field from an accredited university.
  • Leadership experience at the school or central services level.
  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Interventions (CPI).

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

This role operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. Must be able to independently and efficiently access multiple work sites within a workday.
