Banquet Houseperson Supervisor Job Description

Job Summary:

The Banquet Houseperson Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the banquet houseperson team at Terranea Resort. This includes supervising, training, and inspecting the performance of assigned associates to ensure that all procedures are completed to the hotel's standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled function room inspections using a checklist in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of daily scheduled group functions, including times, locations, and specified requirements.
  • Ensure that assigned staff have reported to work and document any late or absent employees.
  • Coordinate breaks for assigned staff and prepare and distribute assignment sheets to assigned staff and review priorities.
  • Assign radios to staff and maintain accurate records of such and ensure security of equipment.
  • Communicate additions or changes to the assignment sheets as they arise throughout the shift.
  • Check supply levels in storage closets and complete requisitions for additional supplies needed and submit to manager.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of storage and service areas and assign designated personnel to rectify any deficiencies.
  • Check Houseman's carts for proper supplies, neatness, cleanliness, and mechanical problems and instruct designated personnel to correct deficiencies.
  • Monitor the Houseman's performance of job functions and ensure that all departmental standards are met.
  • Inspect designated function set-ups and ensure that all group requirements and hotel standards are met.
  • Monitor and ensure that functions are set up, refreshed, and broken down in compliance with scheduled times and departmental procedures.
  • Inspect all function space for cleanliness and condition using specified checklists and ensure that each area meets designated standards.
  • Assist Housemen with their job functions where needed to ensure optimum cleanliness and service standards for guests.
  • Coordinate group's requests for additions/changes to scheduled arrangements and in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Promote positive guest and employee relations.
  • Be familiar with hotel services and features to respond accurately to any guest inquiry.
  • Monitor and handle guest complaints by following instant pacification procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Conduct training of staff as assigned.
  • Provide feedback on staff performance to manager and report disciplinary problems to manager and participate in the counseling of employees.
  • Successful completion of the training/certification process.
  • Complete work orders for maintenance repairs and submit to Manager and contact Engineering directly for urgent repairs.
  • Document pertinent information in department log book.
  • Complete all paperwork and closing duties before leaving and review status of assignments and any follow-up action with manager and/or on-coming supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • 1-year experience as Banquets Houseperson.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements, and proper chemical handling.
  • Knowledge of all styles of room set-ups, standard equipment involved, and proper handling of such.
  • Ability to provide legible communication.
  • Food Handling certificate.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
