Continuous Process Monitoring Overview

The Continuous Process Monitoring (CPM) team is dedicated to overseeing all IT processes and associated controls, ensuring that these controls function as intended. Our objective is to promptly identify and communicate control failures to key stakeholders, allowing for timely mitigation before any risks materialize. The CPM program is embedded within CNA's first line of defense, aligning with our Process, Risk, and Controls (PRC) framework as determined by control and process owners and other stakeholders.

Position Summary

The IT Senior Specialist in Continuous Process Monitoring will play a pivotal role in implementing and assessing technology controls to fulfill the regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements of the organization. This specialist will lead the ongoing evaluation of these controls throughout the year, ensuring they meet established objectives and adequately address identified risks. Detailed reports will be provided to control and process owners, as well as IT leadership. The monitoring and review process will yield actionable recommendations and track remediation plans to ensure timely resolution of pertinent risks. Additionally, this role will address audit issues related to control failures. To drive impactful results, the specialist will engage in initiatives, apply critical thinking, manage multiple projects, and collaborate with stakeholders and leadership across all levels, coupled with effective reporting. Key Responsibilities

In accordance with departmental guidelines, the following duties will be performed:

  • Conduct comprehensive IT reviews of systems, applications, and processes, identifying areas for efficiency improvements under the supervision of the Director.
  • Provide guidance to Technology staff and third-party vendors on IT risk management, particularly concerning applications, operations management, strategy, and infrastructure security.
  • Perform IT security assessments, including evaluating the identification and mitigation of security vulnerabilities, coordinating these reviews with internal stakeholders.
  • Utilize tools to analyze results and data, enhancing audit efficiency and effectiveness, including for risk assessments.
  • Serve as the primary communicator for the CPM function, ensuring stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Develop a systematic approach for reporting results, preparing and presenting findings to executives, process owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Proactively contribute to the education and awareness of policies, standards, control procedures, and IT operational responsibilities across the organization, responding to feedback as necessary.
  • Address audit findings and coordinate remediation efforts with various stakeholders, ensuring effective operation of IT processes and controls for audit purposes.
Reporting Structure

This position typically reports to the Director or higher.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of IT infrastructure, security, application controls, and operational methodologies.
  • Expertise in internal auditing, internal controls, risk management, and familiarity with internal control environments within IT and related business functions.
  • Experience across multiple technology domains, including Windows, Mainframe, Unix, database administration, software development, and networking.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, with a focus on prioritizing and delivering on routine tasks and assigned projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering teamwork with peers and effectively engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to operate within significant limits of authority on technically complex assignments, leading meetings with management at all levels.
  • Commitment to maintaining technical competence through ongoing training and development opportunities.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, preferably in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Networking, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, auditing, advisory, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as CISA, CRISC, CISM, or CISSP are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with IT standards (e.g., ISO 27001), frameworks (e.g., COBIT, NIST, ITIL, CIS), technical systems, and emerging technologies is beneficial.
