As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente facilities team, the Apprentice Engineer 1 will work under the direct supervision of a licensed Operating Engineer to perform routine and skilled preventive maintenance duties. This role involves the repair, alteration, and modification of buildings, equipment, and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform routine maintenance duties: Inspect equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition, maintain routine records, and determine the type and extent of any malfunction of equipment.
- Repair and replace parts: Adjust, disassemble, and repair or replace parts or components, reassemble, and test for proper operation.
- Report and escalate issues: Report more serious problems to the Site Operating Engineer.
- Gain hands-on experience: Receive hands-on experience when attending to gas-fired steam boilers, hot water boilers, and heaters, including adjustments necessary to assure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, water level, and proper operation of safety devices and auxiliary equipment.
- Service and repair equipment: Service and make repairs to heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, including fans, motors, radiators, thermostats, dampers, and regulating controls.
- Perform general plumbing maintenance: Repair leaks and clear drain stoppages, snaking drain lines, pulling/replacing, and resetting toilets as needed.
- Perform routine electrical maintenance: Replace or alter circuit wiring, switches, control equipment, and mechanisms, motors, transformers, relays, generators, appliances, fixtures, alarms, communication equipment, etc.
- Assist with various tasks: Assist with a variety of routine maintenance duties, such as repairing and assembling extension cords, replacing fuses, fluorescent ballasts, and tubes, cleaning and lubricating motors and other machinery, cleaning sink and grease traps, replacing and re-packing valves, assembling equipment, repairing drape pull mechanisms, and related items.
- Interact with colleagues and members: Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, Health Plan members, and the public, adhering to Kaiser Permanente's Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission, and specific departmental/organizational initiatives.
- Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience with Kaiser Permanente in the Engineering field operations. This requirement may be waived with agreement from Local 99.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- License, Certification, Registration: Driver's License (in location where applicable).
- Additional Requirements: Completion of required Apprentice test and acceptance into the State-sponsored Apprenticeship Program, basic skills with hand tools, motorized equipment, and general maintenance.
- Repair skills: Repair skills with Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Boiler Systems.
