Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of medical records and coding systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze complex clinical documentation to assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures
  • Assist in the audit of medical records to identify potential coding and reimbursement issues
  • Collaborate with third-party payers and department staff to coordinate coding and reimbursement processes
  • Provide training and education to faculty, residents, and staff on medical record documentation and coding standards
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in Medicare billing, federal laws, and regulations related to clinical documentation and coding
Requirements
  • Completion of a coding certification program or equivalent training
  • One year of related medical records coding experience or equivalent
  • One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, COC, CIC, or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in coding for inpatient or outpatient hospital services (preferred)
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in health information technology or health administration (preferred)
