Job Summary

This position is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating nutrition services programs for senior residents of the District of Columbia. The incumbent will provide technical direction and guidance to nutritionists and program analysts, manage and evaluate all aspects of DACL nutrition services, and serve as a nutrition expert to other DACL units.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews and implements nutrition program policies, procedures, and guidelines related to DACL nutrition programs.
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to nutritionists and program analysts.
  • Manages and evaluates all aspects of DACL nutrition services.
  • Serves as a nutrition expert to other DACL units.
  • Collaborates with other health professionals to develop strategies to address nutrition issues related to the District's senior population.
  • Manages the distribution of educational information to senior residents through health promotion materials, individual assessments, etc.
  • Provides nutritional guidance and/or training to staff, seniors, and/or grantees as needed.
  • Evaluates services provided.
  • Reviews and approves educational materials to ensure that the needs of special populations are met.
  • Monitors and assesses vendor services/food distribution and grantees performance and program development.
  • Anticipates changes in service needs, shifting nutritional demands, and health trends.
  • Identifies and implements new services and processes to fully establish DACL's nutrition program.

Qualifications and Education

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.
  • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
  • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Licenses and Certifications

Must be a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in Washington, DC, or a Registered Dietitian eligible to obtain licensure in DC within months of employment.

Work Conditions/Environment

Work is usually performed in an office setting; however, on-site visits are also required and may include private homes and apartments, offices, institutions, potential housing, meetings with providers, and professional training sites.
