Job Summary

The Windows Desktop Security Engineer is a key member of the ITSS Desktop Engineering team, serving as a security liaison between Desktop Engineering and other ITSS teams, including Service Desk, Desktop Support, Networking, Data Center, Applications, and Cyber Security.

This role is responsible for maintaining vulnerability and patch compliance across NETL's 1,600 administrative workstation environment, ensuring the security and integrity of the organization's IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain vulnerability and patch compliance across NETL's administrative workstation environment
  • Implement and maintain various endpoint management products, including Palo Alto Cortex XDR, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager, Windows Server Update Services, and Flexera Software Vulnerability Manager
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving third-level trouble calls from the Service Desk
  • Perform off-hours work to patch the NETL Citrix environment during designated preventative maintenance windows
Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in performing business-quality endpoint security engineering and support for a large user base or 6 years with a bachelor's degree or 4 years with a master's degree
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, Palo Alto Cortex XDR, or similar endpoint protection solution is required
  • Experience with Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager, Windows Server Update Services, or similar endpoint management solution is required
  • Microsoft Desktop (Windows 7/8/10/11) and Windows Server (Windows 2012/2016/2019) administration and Active Directory experience is required
  • Proven ability to research, design, and implement technical solutions in an enterprise IT organization
  • Ability to recommend changes in procedures and processes to improve system performance, serviceability, and supportability
  • Professional oral and written communication skills, and expert organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with federal security standards, such as NIST Federal Information Processing Standards and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning products, such as Tenable Nessus
  • Experience with PowerShell, VBScript, DOS batch, Installshield, and MSI scripting languages to automate the deployment of update packages and applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and 802.1x authentication
  • Industry standard certifications, such as Microsoft, McAfee, Security+, CISSP, etc.

As a federal contractor, Maximus is subject to Executive Order 14042 and the Safe Workforce Task Force's COVID-19 Workplace Safety Guidance for Federal Contractors and Subcontractors.
