Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Waste Management Specialist to support our growing environmental practice. In this role, you will work closely with project teams and clients to provide expert waste management support across a range of environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform waste determinations for various waste streams, including RCRA, waste characterizations, and waste regulations.
  • Support the development of waste profile data for manifests, profiles, and shipping documentation.
  • Implement written procedures and plans for waste characterization, management, and disposition.
  • Provide guidance and instructions to field teams on waste sorting, segregation, size reduction, packaging, and securement.
  • Collaborate with team members to determine characterization samples for project waste streams.
  • Perform vendor assessments of hazardous and/or radioactive treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.
  • Identify prohibited items in waste streams requiring segregation and special handling.
  • Perform DOT calculations and write project-specific waste management plans.
  • Assist with client facility compliance reporting needs (EPCRA, etc.) and support project proposal development.
  • Perform detail checks on waste management documentation and complete quality control review forms.
  • Support project-specific cost forecasting and comply with data integrity and AECOM security policies.
  • Review invoices for AECOM billing to clients and subcontractors and support invoice inquiry checks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related technical field and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Computer proficiency and literacy, including MS Office suite applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of waste characterization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years performing similar job responsibilities.
  • Formal and/or recurring waste management training (McCoy and Associates).
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and current annual 8-hour refresher.
  • Experience working with private sector, governmental, and other stakeholders managing wastes.
  • Ability to manage and mentor lower-level staff.
