Purpose and Summary

The Board-Certified Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing clinical genetic counseling services to patients and families. This role works collaboratively with Clinical geneticists and/or specialty providers to deliver comprehensive assessments and medical genetic counseling, reviews implications with the patient and families and provides crisis intervention regarding genetic conditions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a genetic counselor required.
  • Experience in pediatric genetics or equivalent work preferred.
  • Experience in pedigree analysis, risk assessment, screening, testing, counseling, and identification of support resources required.
  • Thorough knowledge of theories and principles of human genetics.
  • Knowledge of clinical features and natural history of a broad range of genetic diseases.
  • Familiarity with general indications, limitations and methodology of common tests used in the areas of cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, and molecular genetics.
  • Knowledge of clinical interpretation of exome and NSG-based tests preferred.
Education and Certification
  • Master's degree from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited genetic counseling training program required.
  • Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California.
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.
Compensation and Benefits

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
