Position Overview

The Checkout Operations Lead is responsible for managing the daily functions of the front end at a grocery establishment. This role includes supervising the cashier team, ensuring seamless transaction processes, and providing outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Management of Checkout Activities
  • Supervises cashier operations to guarantee efficient and precise transactions.
  • Monitors checkout queues to reduce wait times and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Handles customer inquiries and resolves issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with the Front End Manager to ensure optimal staffing of checkout areas.
  • Trains new cashiers on transaction procedures, customer service expectations, and product information.
  • In partnership with the Front End Manager, addresses performance issues or disciplinary matters in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensures that front end personnel take scheduled breaks.
Cash Management and Security
  • Assists the Front End Manager in overseeing cash register operations, including opening and closing tasks, balancing cash drawers, and executing cash drops.
  • Implements cash handling protocols and security measures to mitigate theft or fraud.
  • Conducts routine cash audits and reconciles any discrepancies.
Customer Engagement
  • Welcomes customers and offers assistance as required.
  • Addresses customer complaints or escalates issues to the Front End Manager or Store Leadership when necessary.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and inviting checkout environment.
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensures adherence to safety protocols and sanitation standards.
  • Guarantees compliance with all relevant regulations, including food safety requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience in a retail or grocery setting, with a minimum of 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Proficient in cash handling and point-of-sale systems.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles and inventory management.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to stand or remain on feet for extended periods.
