Overview:

The Canine Behavior Modification and Training Specialist is an integral part of the Canine Behavior Team, dedicated to developing tailored training strategies and conducting daily behavior adjustment sessions for dogs in foster care. This role also involves creating and delivering low-stress handling workshops for staff, volunteers, fosters, and adopters, focusing on gentle techniques to address challenging behaviors. Our organization employs only force-free, reward-based training methodologies.

Our Behavior Program is committed to providing environmental enrichment and socialization for all animals in our care, alongside comprehensive behavior evaluations to facilitate successful adoption and foster placements. We aim to enhance the quality of life for our pets during their time with us. To achieve this, we are introducing a training and behavior modification component for dogs that have transitioned into foster environments. The Behavior Department is in search of a seasoned canine trainer to help design, implement, and oversee this initiative.

Ideal Candidate:

The perfect candidate will be an experienced behavior modification trainer with recognized certifications, eager to embrace the unique challenges and rewards associated with working with shelter dogs adjusting to new homes. You will have a passion for sharing your expertise to elevate the standard of care within the shelter, reduce stress, and support the retention of dogs in their foster homes. Self-motivation, independence, and excellent time management skills are essential. You will thrive in diverse environments, collaborating effectively with individuals of varying dog handling experiences. A strong commitment to animal welfare and enhancing the lives of sheltered animals is crucial, as is enthusiasm for contributing to a forward-thinking shelter enrichment program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crafting and executing personalized training plans for dogs in foster care.
  • Providing support to foster caregivers in problem-solving and behavior modification within their homes.
  • Collaborating with the foster department to relay training progress, address concerns, and recommend future foster pairings.

Compensation and Benefits:

The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $28.00. Our organization values work-life balance and provides a comprehensive paid-time-off (PTO) package, including vacation days, personal days, and sick leave.
