Role Summary: The Commercial Loan Portfolio Specialist is responsible for supporting Market Presidents and Relationship Managers (commercial loan officers) in the collection of financial information, performing data analysis, preparing progress reports, managing overdue and matured loans, and overseeing the loan portfolio. This role ensures that loans are finalized as approved, with comprehensive documentation, and in adherence to all relevant regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Relationship Managers with new loan applications by collecting and verifying financial documents, entering data into the document management system, conducting financial analysis, and drafting initial credit assessments.
  • Oversee maturing loans by proactively addressing upcoming expirations at least 30 days in advance to minimize extensions and maintain the originally approved loan structure.
  • Collaborate with Loan Assistants to ensure accurate and timely preparation of closing documents. Regularly follow up on documentation exceptions (titles, deeds, title policies) to secure prompt receipt of these essential documents.
  • Manage the loan portfolio to ensure zero overdue matured loans or payments exceeding 30 days by coordinating with Relationship Managers to collect overdue payments.
  • Review and collaborate with Relationship Managers on Past Due reports, ensuring accuracy in the status of overdue loans and requesting necessary loan maintenance and auto debit documentation.
  • Support clients with inquiries regarding loan payments, maintenance, and historical loan data.
  • Participate in Loan Committee meetings, providing updates on any renewals in progress.
  • Assist clients in completing auto debit setups as part of pre or post-closing processes.
  • Request Credit Reports through Loan Assistants as needed.
  • Engage in special projects related to the loan portfolio.
  • Support all lenders in managing construction loan portfolios, including:
    • Processing builder construction draw requests, which involves ordering inspections, maintaining construction budgets, and managing funding draws while seeking necessary approvals.
    • Ensuring thorough management of inspections, either by completing them personally or assigning them to another lender.
    • Verifying that inspection photos are comprehensive and uploaded appropriately.

Qualifications:

Experience & Education:

A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in commercial account management or commercial credit underwriting and risk assessment. A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.

  • Familiarity with loan structuring and underwriting processes.
  • Understanding of consumer, commercial, and real estate loans, along with relevant regulations, procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and CRM software.
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit strong attention to detail, reliability, and analytical skills. They should possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while resolving loan portfolio challenges effectively.
  • Completion of all mandatory compliance training and adherence to applicable laws and regulations related to this position.
  • Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team player.
  • Capability to interpret and execute various written and oral instructions.
  • Clear communication skills to convey information logically and understandably.
  • Proficiency in performing basic financial calculations accurately.
  • Ability to interact professionally and calmly with diverse personalities at various organizational levels, demonstrating exceptional customer service and discretion.
  • Capacity to perform responsibilities with composure under pressure, maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with the utmost discretion.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Exemplary courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are vital for this role. The position involves personal interactions with individuals both inside and outside the organization, typically concerning routine matters that require brief discussions for information exchange or advisory purposes.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time role with potential remote work opportunities in the future. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The candidate must be prepared to work extended hours as required by management.


Travel Requirements:

This position may necessitate up to 25% travel between various First Peoples Bank locations.


Equipment Utilization:

Must be proficient in operating a computer, fax machine, scanner, copier, printer, telephone, and other office equipment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not entail supervisory duties.


Work Environment:

Must be able to perform work indoors in a climate-controlled shared workspace with moderate noise levels.


Physical Demands:

This position necessitates the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods, reach, bend, walk, or navigate around the office, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
