Job Overview

The Military Materials & Processes Section Leader at GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation will oversee all facets of the section, including the formulation of division-wide materials strategies, technology roadmaps, and all initiatives related to materials science. This position will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to innovate and advance next-generation material systems for military applications.

Key Responsibilities

As the Military Materials & Processes Section Leader, your key responsibilities will encompass:
  • Providing leadership and oversight in the development, industrialization, and scaling of current and future materials sciences, research, development, and processes for military products.
  • Establishing functional responsibility for the collaboration between Engineering and Supply Chain, working closely with peer Design and Systems Engineering Leaders while adhering to best practices across Aerospace Engineering.
  • Serving as a vital member of the Edison Works Engineering Staff, offering guidance, leadership, mentoring, and intervention as necessary to enhance the discipline, safety, quality, reliability, and rigor of military NTI/NPI efforts.
  • Acting as an extended member of the Engineering Material Systems Department staff, providing essential guidance and leadership to strengthen the discipline and rigor of engineering work across Aerospace Engineering.
  • Formulating and executing strategies to secure external funding aimed at accelerating materials development in alignment with business objectives.
  • Ensuring high integrity in leadership and oversight of processes that protect Intellectual Property, Export Controlled, and Strategic Technology.
  • Driving the development and implementation of consistent design practices and the sharing of design best practices.
  • Ensuring adherence to a rigorous process for executing Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action for product and process issues, including system-level testing.
  • Defining product requirements for module/component teams.
  • Managing interfaces between components and various organizations.
  • Driving CTQ/Risk trades within teams responsible for component design.
  • Overseeing the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant technical leadership experience in Design, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering is preferred.
  • Prior experience managing technical programs and designing/developing new products to address product issues is preferred.
  • Experience with New Product Development (NPI) processes, Lean Principles, and industrialization methodologies is preferred.
  • Strong coaching abilities and a successful track record of collaboration across business functions and global teams.
  • Robust business acumen and customer-focused mindset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  • Lean Six Sigma training is preferred.
Additional Information

This role necessitates access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
