Position Overview

About the Role

In this position, you will play a crucial role in the care and management of laboratory animals (specifically rodents) across our vivarium facilities. The well-being of these research animals is essential to Biogen's commitment to advancing scientific research for our patients. Your responsibilities will include meticulous observation and documentation to ensure compliance with established standards. You will collaborate with a dedicated team, including training and technical staff, and have opportunities for professional development in technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily health assessments, document and report any abnormalities to the veterinary team and researchers, and provide basic clinical care as needed.
  • Perform husbandry tasks for rodent species, including mice and rats.
  • Receive and properly house incoming animals.
  • Maintain all vivarium environments, submitting maintenance requests when necessary.
  • Carry out general cleaning duties while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Assist the team with additional tasks as required.

The ideal candidate is someone who is deeply committed to animal care and welfare, possesses excellent attention to detail, and demonstrates strong communication abilities. We seek individuals who are passionate about their work and eager to continue their professional growth.

Essential Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • ALAT certification is required within the first year of employment.

Work Schedule

This position requires a regular work schedule of 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with post-surgical monitoring.
  • Familiarity with basic rodent dosing techniques.
