Animal Care Specialist II

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Vivarium Husbandry Animal Care Technician 2 to join our Insourcing Solutions Department in Cambridge, MA.
In this role, you will be responsible for observing, monitoring, and documenting the health and physical environment within the animal facility. You will also perform animal care and husbandry duties, including reviewing and complying with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observe and monitor the health and physical environment within the animal facility
- Perform animal care and husbandry duties, including reviewing and complying with all SOPs and quality assurance standards
- Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research
- Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility
- Perform health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain quality of health of research animals
- Assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian
- Perform humane euthanasia
- Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area
- May be involved in strictly maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels
- Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Biology, or Biological Science preferred
- A minimum of two years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) within 18 months of hire
