Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager is a key member of the management team, responsible for ensuring all club operations are consistent with US Fitness standards. This role oversees one or more departments, recruiting, hiring, training, managing, and disciplining team members. The Assistant General Manager will assist in all club operations, providing leadership and management to ensure the delivery of the Ultimate Fitness Experience to every member, every time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the Ultimate Fitness Experience to every member, every time
  • Oversee at least one department within the home club, including hiring, training, managing, scheduling, coaching, and disciplining employees
  • Provide oversight, leadership, and management to one or more departments within the club
  • Recruit and retain new team members in assigned departments
  • Cultivate relationships and build team morale
  • Ensure effective operations, cleanliness, and staff relations according to company standards
  • Mentor Front Desk staff through new hire development programs
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to all staff
  • Coordinate staff meetings on a regular basis
  • Communicate club activities and procedures to team members in assigned departments
  • Track all point-of-sale interactions with members for successful completion
  • Create employee schedules and track time and attendance of all employees within departments
  • Verify and approve department payroll bi-monthly
  • Review and manage department expenses and oversee budget compliance
  • Attend all mandatory trainings, meetings, and development courses
  • Maintain personnel files for all team members in assigned departments
  • Track inventory, order, and restock items, and optimize inventory systems
  • Promote the sale of pro shop items, drinks, and supplements
  • Oversee and coordinate department tasks, including member questions, vendor scheduling, charity donations, deposits, member giveaways, lost and found, and vending machine requests
  • Assist in day-to-day club operations as part of the management team
  • Complete all daily reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Meet, greet, and work the floor during select times of day
  • Establish rapport and relationships with members via thank-you notes and guest passes
  • Track leads, appointments, prospect interests, etc., in appropriate systems
  • Market the club to organizations and corporations
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings and find ways to boost personal performance
  • Respond to all member questions or concerns within 48 hours
  • Understand and follow employee standards of conduct and ethics
  • Keep staff files up to date
  • Model and uphold employee standards of conduct and ethics
  • Ensure compliance with club building, facilities, service, program, and emergency procedures
  • Act as Manager On Duty when required
  • Work early morning, evening, and weekend hours as necessary
  • Assume other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, fitness, business management, or related field preferred
  • CPR/AED certification required

Physical Demands

  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
