Director of Development

Morehouse College seeks an accomplished fundraiser to join its Advancement team. The Director of Development will be the primary development liaison for one of the College's academic units, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting alumni and friends of the College, as well as corporate and foundation stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of major donor prospects, with a focus on face-to-face contact and strategic visits.
  • Develop and implement fundraising initiatives, working closely with unit heads and fundraising volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Development to ensure Institutional Advancement provides comprehensive advancement support services.
  • Utilize development reporting processes to monitor and evaluate fundraising appeals, and develop standard activity and progress reports.
  • Facilitate the solicitation of cash and planned gifts, and maintain relevancy in the field through continuous learning and professional development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, liberal arts, or related field.
  • Five or more years of related and progressively more responsibility or expansive work experience in professional fundraising, alumni/donor relations, public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • Experience with "Moves Management" or related strategic relationship development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Collaborative team-oriented style, with ability to work with a variety of personality types.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a higher education environment, having participated in a comprehensive campaign.
  • Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts of $50,000 and above.
  • Experience with fundraising and financial software.
