Role Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for delivering exceptional, patient-focused care by designing and implementing tailored therapy programs for individuals with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing challenges. As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Speech Language Pathologist conducts thorough patient evaluations and sets relevant treatment objectives. The Speech Language Pathologist also serves as an educator for patients, families, students, and colleagues. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a detailed assessment of the assigned patient's speech and language capabilities through interactive conversation. Administer standardized tests to evaluate the patient's communication strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop and execute personalized therapy plans aimed at enhancing communication skills.
  • Regularly assess patient progress during treatment and modify the therapy plan as necessary to optimize outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress, including notes, charges, discharge summaries, and communication records.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Rehabilitation Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screening assessments and consultations to determine suitable patient placements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited Speech Language Pathology program.
  • Current licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Preferred membership in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
