Position Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides comprehensive clinical guidance for all facets of patient care in an outpatient environment under the supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider. This role demonstrates clinical expertise by employing evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. The nurse integrates knowledge of safety protocols, cost management, and quality enhancement throughout their practice while adhering to the regulations set forth by relevant healthcare authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment: Gathers data and conducts nursing assessments using appropriate standards and tools. Recognizes subtle or significant changes in patients' conditions and their responses to interventions. Manages patient inquiries and clinical needs within the defined scope of practice, utilizing critical thinking to inform patient care. - 25%
- Planning/Outcomes: Collaborates with the healthcare team to formulate a comprehensive care plan for patients. Makes necessary referrals based on assessments (e.g., nutrition, social services). - 15%
- Implementation: Delivers direct patient care in a safe, timely, and efficient manner, consistent with the established care plan and patient priorities. Executes specific tasks in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, delegating appropriate nursing responsibilities to team members while ensuring task completion and monitoring care quality. - 25%
- Evaluation: Alerts the healthcare provider to any changes in patient conditions based on ongoing assessments. Maintains accurate documentation in the medical record. - 15%
- Patient/Family Education: Identifies and assesses the educational needs of patients and their families, providing instruction in a manner that is clear and relatable. Encourages active participation in the teaching process and utilizes various resources to enhance understanding. - 10%
- Professional Accountability: Reflects on personal nursing practice in relation to established standards and regulations. Takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency through education and engagement in community health initiatives. Maintains licensure and fulfills mandatory education requirements in a timely manner. - 10%
Minimum Qualifications
- Education - Associate's degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
Licensure Requirements
- Valid South Carolina Nursing License - RN
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
