Position Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides expert clinical guidance for all facets of patient care in an outpatient environment under the supervision of a physician, Advanced Practice Provider, or physician resident. This role demands clinical proficiency, leveraging evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. The nurse will integrate knowledge of safety protocols, cost management, and quality enhancement throughout their practice. Compliance with all regulations set forth by relevant authorities is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Assessment: Gather data and perform nursing assessments using appropriate standards and tools. Recognize subtle or significant changes in patient conditions and responses to interventions. Manage patient inquiries and clinical needs within the scope of practice. Utilize critical thinking to inform patient care. - 25%
- Planning/Outcomes: Collaborate with the healthcare team to formulate patient care plans. Make suitable referrals based on assessments (e.g., nutrition, social services). - 15%
- Implementation: Deliver direct patient care safely, timely, and effectively, in line with established care plans and patient priorities. Execute specific tasks according to organizational policies and procedures within the nursing scope; utilize available resources and technology as needed. Delegate appropriate nursing responsibilities to team members and ensure task completion. Monitor the quality of care provided. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and patient care standards. - 25%
- Evaluation: Inform the healthcare provider of any changes in patient conditions based on ongoing assessments. Document all relevant information accurately in medical records. - 15%
- Patient/Family Education: Assess and address the educational needs of patients and families, using familiar language and examples to enhance understanding. Encourage involvement in the teaching plan and utilize appropriate resources. Communicate educational needs to the healthcare team as necessary. - 10%
- Professional Accountability: Reflect on nursing practice concerning professional standards, state regulations, and current knowledge. Take responsibility for maintaining competency through ongoing education and professional development. Ensure documentation and communication focus on relevant information to meet patient and family care needs. Advocate for patients and coordinate care with the healthcare team. - 10%
Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
No prior experience is necessary.
Licensure/Certifications
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in South Carolina.
