Position Overview
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will deliver direct patient care, education, and support within a specialized medical practice. You will act as a clinical and community resource, educator, and consultant, leveraging your advanced nursing expertise to enhance nursing practices in your designated area.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care in an outpatient medical setting, maintaining an extensive knowledge of disease processes, medications, and treatment modalities specific to the specialty. Conduct thorough assessments and evaluate comprehensive health histories, adjusting care plans as necessary in collaboration with physicians.
- Execute accurate phone triage, involving physicians when required. Utilize critical thinking and advanced knowledge to address the majority of patient inquiries effectively.
- Manage the triage of current patients and incoming referrals as needed. Collaborate with physicians to prioritize scheduling for office visits and diagnostic testing, ensuring timely care for emergent cases.
- Identify educational needs of patients and their families, collaborating with team members and community resources to create and implement effective educational plans.
- Assist with in-office procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Take responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a secure environment, promoting adherence to safety protocols, and participating in environmental assessments.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement projects and relevant policies specific to the specialty area. Mentor and support new team members until they achieve proficiency.
- Reflect on personal nursing practice in relation to professional standards, guidelines, and regulations, pursuing continuous education and professional development opportunities.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for continuing education for team members and hospital staff, utilizing community resources as needed under the guidance of management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not involve management responsibilities and will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in a relevant specialty or related field is required.
Licensure and Certifications
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Carolina.
Alternative Qualifications
In lieu of one year of registered nursing experience, one year of licensed practical nursing (LPN) experience will be accepted.
Additional Skills and Experience
Certification in the specialty area is preferred. Experience with IV insertion and maintenance is also preferred.
Work Schedule
This position operates during daytime hours.
