Hotel General Manager Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hotel General Manager to lead our property to success. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hotel's operations, including management of general property performance, food and beverage operations, sales and marketing strategy, profitability, revenue generation, and human resources activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely real-time feedback to management and hourly associates on service and operational standards.
  • Create and support clear lines of responsibility for the management team, including coverage and oversight throughout the day.
  • Monitor food and beverage forecasting and par levels to reduce waste and maximize food and beverage profit margins.
  • Work with the regional sales office to implement a sales strategy for the property, including goal setting, rate setting, and sales planning.
  • Develop innovative means for capturing new streams of revenue through property amenities.
  • Measure, analyze, and communicate property performance using a variety of financial and non-financial data, including controllable costs, sales, revenue, guest satisfaction, and associate engagement data.
  • Manage the relationship with the revenue management team, including participating in routine calls, strategy meetings, and periodic update meetings.
  • Conduct day-to-day human resource transactions to support the needs of the property, including compensation actions, hiring requisitions, and performance management.
  • Ensure ongoing development of managers, including one-on-one coaching and performance feedback.
  • Actively recruit and hire qualified associates.
  • Keep brand leadership team, owners, and above-property stakeholders updated on property performance in the areas of financials, guest satisfaction, and associate engagement.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree from an accredited university in business administration, hotel and restaurant management, or a related major.
  • Bachelor's degree, a plus.
  • Four years' experience in guest services, front desk, housekeeping, sales and marketing, management operations, or a related professional area.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in implementing payroll and inventory cost controls.
  • Strong sales and marketing abilities.
  • Marriott experience, a plus.
