Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to lead our Marine Mammal Observer Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive monitoring program to assess protected species bycatch in the salmon drift gillnet fishery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct scoping work and provide recommendations for sample design
  • Develop and write research grant proposals to test novel observation techniques
  • Work with database designers to establish a single data repository for the program
  • Coordinate with Alaska Fisheries Science Center staff to develop training materials and data QA/QC processes
  • Prepare reports describing the Southeast drift gillnet fishery, associated sampling challenges, and recommended strategies to mitigate challenges
Essential Functions
  • Serve as leader for a field research project, developing annual work plans, statements of work, and budgets
  • Develop and adapt procedures and techniques to ensure timeliness, scientific accuracy, and quality of work
  • Write, edit, and assemble progress reports, technical reports, and annual reports
  • Represent the project in meetings with agencies, tribes, fishing industry representatives, universities, and consultants
Requirements
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, and systems of project management
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the outcome of unit work efforts
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of project management experience
  • Experience designing and implementing large research projects or leading complex environmental assessments
  • Knowledge of database management procedures and techniques
  • Experience conducting quantitative analyses to inform fishery management
Location

The successful candidate will be based in Seattle, Washington or Juneau, Alaska, with flexibility to work remotely.
