Position Overview

Shermco Industries is in search of a Senior Electrical Testing Technician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to client locations (industrial and commercial) to conduct inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and data collection for low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (ranging from 480 Volt to 600 kV).
  • Perform tests on instrument transformers.
  • Conduct power transformer evaluations, including Doble, TTR, and Insulation Resistance tests.
  • Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Execute cable testing, including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
  • Test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Carry out moderately complex relay calibrations and power metering.
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotations and respond promptly to client emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to drive locally and regionally, with availability for occasional overnight travel.
  • Preferred educational background includes an Associate's degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) or an Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training.
  • NETA Certification (II, III, or IV) is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting is required.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB is advantageous.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to electrical safety protocols is essential.
  • Preferred certifications include OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED; training can be provided by Shermco.

Additional Requirements:

  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to pass a fit-for-duty physical examination when necessary.
  • Must maintain a drug-free status; passing a pre-employment drug test and random drug screenings is required.
  • An acceptable pre-employment criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Physical fitness to crawl, climb, stand, walk, and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the U.S. now or in the future.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential.
  • Willingness to travel, with a minimum of 40% travel expected.
