The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is on the lookout for a visionary physician leader to take on the role of Chief Medical Officer overseeing Crisis and Forensic Services. This position is pivotal in steering a dedicated team focused on delivering exceptional, evidence-based care to individuals with behavioral health and developmental challenges.

Headquartered in Texas, The Harris Center operates as a prominent non-profit organization, offering a comprehensive suite of behavioral health and intellectual/developmental disability services. The organization provides a variety of treatment options, including outpatient care, residential programs, community initiatives, crisis intervention, and forensic services. Our skilled and certified staff are committed to supporting patients and their families across multiple locations, utilizing innovative telehealth solutions and evidence-based methodologies.

The Harris Center's crisis services encompass a 24/7 Crisis Access Line, Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams (MCOT), and a Crisis Stabilization Unit, all aimed at delivering prompt and effective assistance to those facing mental health crises. Our forensic services collaborate closely with the criminal justice system, offering specialized care for individuals with mental health concerns entangled in legal matters. This includes programs for competency restoration, jail diversion, and forensic evaluations, all designed to enhance outcomes for this at-risk population.

Position Overview

The Chief Medical Officer for Crisis and Forensic Services will provide strategic medical leadership, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer. This role is essential in shaping and advancing innovative psychiatric programs tailored to the needs of the community. The ideal candidate will possess a strong psychiatric background and a deep commitment to community health, demonstrating expertise in evidence-based medical practices and effective team management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee comprehensive medical operations across psychiatric crisis and forensic service lines.
  • Manage medical services for various units, including the Crisis Stabilization Unit, Crisis Respite Units, and jail-based mental health services.
  • Contribute to the development of pioneering psychiatric programs within the community.
  • Supervise medical directors across multiple programs, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations to facilitate service referrals.
  • Administer medical operations, including treatment plan reviews and insurance certifications.
  • Evaluate existing programs and work collaboratively to implement innovative practices.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO with board certification in psychiatry.
  • Minimum of four years of medical management experience.
  • Experience in community psychiatry and a solid understanding of psychopharmacology.
  • Three to five years in a psychiatric leadership role, including governance and quality management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience managing complex issues for vulnerable populations.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of behavioral health services, quality measurement, and data analytics.
  • Clinical experience in community psychiatry crisis settings and medical informatics.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced administrative degree or relevant certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
