Position Overview:

The Minneapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Bilingual Student Success Program Assistant. This position is integral to the Office of Latine Achievement and involves working closely with middle school students, educational staff, families, and community organizations to foster inclusive programs that enhance student performance and attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to Spanish-speaking students through personal check-ins and group sessions.
  • Adhere to organizational policies while performing assigned duties.
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress, facilitating access to educational resources that strengthen foundational skills.
  • Engage with parents and staff to share relevant information while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Exhibit professionalism and cooperative behavior in interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and community service providers to create effective strategies for improving student outcomes.
  • Implement school success initiatives that align with organizational goals, promoting high-achieving environments.
  • Work with educational teams to clarify the roles of staff in enhancing student success.
  • Adapt educational services to meet diverse student needs.
  • Identify professional development opportunities for staff to improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Utilize various assessment tools to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Address and resolve student and family concerns, providing advocacy as needed.
  • Support the Superintendent's objectives while adhering to all relevant policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all work-related matters.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, social services, psychology, or a related field, along with three years of relevant experience in an urban educational setting. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is required, as well as cultural competence in Latin American cultures.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of educational policies and practices that impact student engagement.
  • Familiarity with MPS policies regarding testing, attendance, and special education.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and negotiation techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
