The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Assistant Vice President, Institutional Equity and Compliance. This key leadership position will play a critical role in ensuring the university's compliance with federal and state laws related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee institutional compliance with Title IX, Title VII, ADA, and other federal and state civil rights laws and regulations.
- Conduct investigations and ensure timely, accurate, and consistent outcomes.
- Manage a team of equity compliance staff, including the Title IX Coordinator/ADA Compliance Officer, Fair Practices/Equal Opportunity Officer, Employee Accommodations Manager, and Senior DEI Manager and Investigator.
- Develop and implement policies to identify and address barriers to employment based on sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, or accessibility.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to implement the university's Affirmative Action Program (AAP) and design an internal audit and reporting system to measure its effectiveness.
- Provide training on university policies and procedures related to discrimination and harassment, sexual misconduct, and complaint procedures and investigation processes.
- Partner with HR, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs to develop proactive strategies to prevent adverse impact and potential discrimination and/or harassment in employment, programs, and related activities.
- Collaborate on the global delivery of diversity programs and identify global trends.
- Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience, including at least five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- Success building relationships with key stakeholders and influencing partners across the organization to deliver results.
- Developing EO-related programs and policies, delivering training programs on topics related to Title IX, VAWA, the ADEA, ADA, Title VII, and other relevant laws.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire a team and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Natural curiosity and emotional intelligence, with self-awareness and strong problem-solving skills.
- Certification as a DEI professional is also required.
- Juris Doctorate or other earned doctorate in a relevant field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Successful experience working in a decentralized higher education environment.
- Knowledge of DEI and organizational change models, and experience with the most current research and data to understand and implement DEI practices.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating dialogue with and among employees to cultivate an environment of inclusiveness, collegiality, shared inquiry and responsibility, and the collective accomplishments that will move DEI work forward.
- Experience translating data and analytics to develop insights while informing and driving decisions and measuring impact.
- Skilled in conflict resolution.
