Position Title:

Wastewater Collection Maintenance Specialist II (may underfill as a I or Trainee)

Job Overview:

This role encompasses all responsibilities related to the management and upkeep of the wastewater collection infrastructure. Duties include maintaining, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, testing, and documenting sewer lines, collection facilities, and pumping stations using specialized television inspection technology. The position may also involve acting as a Wastewater Collection Maintenance Lead Worker or focusing on specific functions such as safety compliance. This role requires interaction with the public and may include training responsibilities.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trainee Level:

Maintains and cleans sewer lines utilizing hand tools, power tools, high-pressure equipment, and mechanical rodders.Conducts inspections of various sewer lines and systems using television equipment and sound technology.Locates lines using electronic, manual, and other equipment, as well as maps and charts. May install sewer main connections and repair damaged sewer lines.Tests sewer lines with specialized equipment and may operate sealing equipment under supervision.Performs maintenance on sewer systems and equipment.Raises and seals manholes, which includes pouring concrete, directing traffic, and informing the public about sewer operations.Inspects and maintains sewer pumping facilities, which may involve cleaning pumps and performing maintenance tasks.May inspect and repair small pumps, telemetry, and electrodes.Completes other assigned duties as necessary.

Worker I Level:

Maintains and cleans sewer lines using various tools and equipment.Inspects sewer lines and systems, making minor adjustments and repairs as needed.Locates blockages and uses various tools to identify sewer lines.Tests lines with equipment and makes recommendations for maintenance schedules.Consults with department personnel regarding sewer issues and maintenance plans.Raises and seals manholes, which may include concrete work and traffic management.Inspects and maintains sewer pumping facilities, including cleaning and maintenance tasks.May train new employees on job duties and safety protocols.

Worker II Level:

Collaborates with teams to clean sewer lines, inspect facilities, and administer root-killing foam.Operates specialized equipment such as high-pressure cleaning trucks and TV inspection tools.Responsible for completing necessary permits for confined space entry and safety compliance.Reports progress and issues to crew leaders and supervisors.Conducts safety evaluations and has the authority to halt work if safety standards are not met.Informs the public about sewer issues and responds to complaints.May perform duties of a Wastewater Collection Lead Maintenance Worker in their absence.Completes all duties associated with the Wastewater Collection Maintenance Worker role.Performs additional tasks as required.

Worker III Level:

Works with teams to maintain sewer lines and inspect facilities.Operates specialized cleaning and inspection equipment.Responsible for permits related to safety compliance.Reports on crew progress and issues to supervisors.Conducts safety evaluations and ensures compliance with regulations.Handles public inquiries regarding sewer issues.May assume lead worker responsibilities in their absence.Completes all duties of a Wastewater Collection Maintenance Worker.Performs other required tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Trainee Level:

High school diploma or GED equivalent, with one year of experience in general maintenance or heavy labor.Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging conditions.Valid driver's license or driving privilege card required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B.Previous experience in wastewater system maintenance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Heavy physical activity with continuous lifting and manual labor.Exposure to challenging working conditions, including raw sewage and hazardous materials.Subject to year-round outdoor conditions and potential safety hazards.
