Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Reclamation Facility Operator to join our team at Salt Lake City. As a key member of our Public Utilities department, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our water reclamation facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and adjust equipment to optimize water, gas, and power flow
  • Maintain facility security and operate CCTV systems
  • Perform routine sampling and testing, and make adjustments based on results
  • Operate heavy equipment, including front-end loaders and vactor trucks
  • Assist in the handling and transporting of biosolids and other materials
  • Use computerized process control systems to monitor and adjust facility processes
  • Provide training and coaching to junior staff members
  • Assist with plant maintenance, repairs, and installation work

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with studies in math, chemistry, mechanics, and general science
  • Two years' post-high-school study of Algebra, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Hydraulics, Computer Science, Environmental Technology, or other related subjects
  • Four years of work experience in wastewater treatment operations and/or maintenance
  • Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification from the State of Utah
  • Possession of an unrestricted Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification from the State of Utah within 6 years of obtaining the position
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or Utah driving privilege card
  • A Utah Class A or B Commercial Driver's License is preferred

Career Ladder:

After successful performance and acquiring the skills and qualifications necessary, incumbents may be advanced to higher levels of the Water Reclamation Facility Operator career ladder.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate physical activity
  • Occasional requirement for lifting 50 to 75 pounds
  • Exposure to confined spaces, high-voltage equipment, dust, heat, cold, dampness, extremely disagreeable odors, noise, heights, unknown levels of pathogenic bacteria, and other environmental aspects
  • Significant potential exists for exposure to hazardous chemicals and gases
  • Employees are to follow prescribed safety and hygienic procedures
  • Moderate exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and the demands of the position
  • Subject to emergency on-call, 24-hour, seven-day week basis
