Boston Children's Hospital Autism Language Program (ALP) is on the lookout for a dedicated, full-time ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist, ideally with Massachusetts Licensing or license qualified, who has a specialization in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, particularly in the context of autism. This position is not intended for Clinical Fellowship candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts comprehensive communication assessments, which include evaluations of comprehension, production, and motor speech capabilities.
  • Engages in interviews and provides counseling to families and patients concerning communication disorders.
  • Develops and executes case management plans, including follow-up and referrals for patients.
  • Maintains thorough documentation and reporting of communication evaluation outcomes.
  • Fosters collaboration within the department and across other departments.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participates in AAC-related research and/or the development of AAC projects within the scope of this clinical role.
  • Encouraged to cultivate personal areas of clinical interest that align with the program's mission.
  • Utilizes analytical skills to gather information from various sources, applying professional principles to perform analyses and summarize data to address challenges or design complex systems and programs.
  • Employs effective communication skills to navigate differing viewpoints.
Qualifications:
  • ASHA Certification in Speech-Language Pathology, along with a Massachusetts SLP license or license qualification.
  • Extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with autism who have complex communication needs.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of current assistive technology, ranging from no-tech to high-tech solutions, along with a comprehensive understanding of strategies to enhance functional communication and language acquisition for individuals with ASD.
Additional Information:

This role will necessitate working one Saturday per month in the clinic, with the potential for increased Saturday coverage in the future. The position is based at the Waltham outpatient clinic, with possibilities for future expansion to other locations.
