Control Systems Specialist

Position Overview
As a Control Systems Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the design, execution, and troubleshooting of control system strategies. This includes selecting appropriate instrumentation and programming various control systems such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces, and SCADA systems tailored for water treatment operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize technical documents including Control Logic Diagrams, Shutdown Keys, and Loop Diagrams to effectively commission and troubleshoot control systems.
- Develop and revise P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control documentation.
- Engage with clients to discuss I&C designs and review submitted documentation.
- Analyze client challenges and propose suitable solutions.
- Conduct factory acceptance tests for control systems alongside clients and their representatives.
- Collaborate across various departments including Projects, Products, and Services.
- Establish and troubleshoot Ethernet-based networks for remote monitoring and support.
- Provide advanced technical assistance to both internal teams and external clients facing complex controls and programming challenges.
- Offer technical insights and reviews to the sales and commercial teams regarding customer proposals for upgrades and modifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and commissioning instrumentation and control systems within industrial settings.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, or SCADA control systems.
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally, with travel expectations of approximately 20% to 30%.
- Capability to work at remote construction sites, including the physical demands of accessing equipment and adhering to safety protocols.
- Proficiency in at least one automation platform (e.g., AB, GE-IP, Modicon, Siemens) and familiarity with IEC61131-3 standards.
- Experience with fieldbus networks such as Controlnet, Devicenet, and Foundation Fieldbus.
- An understanding of cybersecurity principles relevant to industrial control systems.
- Prior knowledge of water treatment technologies and equipment, including UF, RO, EDR, EDI, and chemical feed systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work independently with project teams.
Work Environment:
This position involves a mix of remote work, office settings, and on-site activities at various industrial and municipal facilities, requiring adherence to different levels of personal protective equipment (PPE).
