Job Summary:

The Senior Grants Accountant will support the grants management team at BDO, providing transactional, managerial, and strategic support to clients. Responsibilities include managing government and private contracts, developing policies and procedures, and identifying technology to automate and streamline processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full cycle of grants accounting, including monitoring spending, preparing funder reports, and closing out contracts.
  • Monitor compliance with funder regulations and present instances of non-compliance to clients.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules of variances between budget and actuals.
  • Perform account analysis and propose journal entries for assigned contracts.
  • Collaborate with clients and outsourced team members to maintain salary allocations for grant-funded positions.
  • Coordinate requests for supporting documentation during desk audits and similar requests from funders.
  • Support government contract audits, including pre-audit preparation of requested documents and schedules.
  • Maintain contractual records, grants correspondence, and a calendar of grant reporting.
  • Guide the work of junior support staff and coordinate deliverables with offshore resources and BDO Rise team members.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in nonprofit finance management.
  • Experience with analyzing direct and indirect cost allocation methodology and preparing worksheets for negotiated indirect cost rate proposals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Excel.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting systems, Intacct (Sage).
Working Knowledge:
  • Federal, state, and local government grant administration regulations.
  • NYC contracts administered by the Department of Homeless Services, Human Resources Administration, Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, and other relevant departments.
  • NYC and NYS grants administration portals, including PASSPort, Statewide Financial System, and the Consolidated Financial Reporting System.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local government grant administration regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and communicate results in a concise manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
