Position Overview:
The Student Assistant will engage in various banquet and event-related responsibilities under general supervision. This position allows students to refine their customer service abilities, foster teamwork, and advance their professional skills.


Become a part of the Banquets and Events team within Foundation Hospitality Services, where you will assist in orchestrating outstanding events at the Cal Poly Pomona campus.

This is a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and play a role in enhancing the vibrant campus atmosphere.

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION:

The Foundation serves as a major employer for Cal Poly Pomona students, offering essential work experience to around 1,500 students each year.

With a variety of roles spanning from technology to hospitality management, student employees receive practical training that aligns with the university's learn-by-doing philosophy.


Moreover, the Foundation contributes to numerous programs, including Bronco Athletics and scholarships, providing an annual contribution exceeding $1 million to Cal Poly Pomona.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Balance technical and interpersonal skills while working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and materials.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, manage confidential materials, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects efficiently.
  • Assist individuals through various forms of communication.
  • Contribute to special projects and maintain effective communication with supervisors.
  • Collaborate successfully in a diverse and multicultural setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Food Handler's card recognized by the State of California.
  • Dependable work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies in various contexts.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and adaptability.
  • Openness to new ideas and willingness to embrace evolving technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications such as Servsafe Managers or equivalent.
  • Valid CA driver's license with insurance coverage.
  • Certification in Servsafe Alcohol or equivalent.
