Social Work Assistant Professor Position

About the Position

The California State University is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Social Work. As a member of the Department of Sociology, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in social work, with a particular focus on micro-level social work.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service, with a demonstrated ability to engage with diverse student populations. A Ph.D. in Sociology or Social Work, or a related field, is required, as is a Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited university.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, advising, and professional and scholarly achievements, as well as a commitment to service to the department, university, and community.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in social work, with a focus on micro-level social work
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the department's goals and objectives
  • Advise students and provide mentorship in research and academic pursuits
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publication
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and community engagement
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Sociology or Social Work, or a related field
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited university
  • University teaching experience as instructor of record and/or teaching assistant
  • A Student Success Statement that demonstrates commitment and record of contributions to diversity and equity
  • Three references' names and contact information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of ability to teach courses in social work
  • Evidence of ability to teach across the social work curriculum and support instruction in applied areas of social work theory and micro practice
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching excellence through student evaluations, descriptions of pedagogical innovation, and other evidence of commitment to quality teaching
  • Evidence of ability to engage in an active scholarly agenda that provides opportunities for student research
  • Evidence of ability to serve as an academic advisor and research mentor to a diverse undergraduate student body
