Job Summary

The Water Resources Institute is seeking a highly qualified Director of Research to lead our research efforts in water prediction, water data science, risk communication, climate resiliency planning, and solutions development. The successful candidate will work closely with our faculty director to provide institute leadership, develop and grow work in key areas, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality research products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement research development strategies to secure external funding and manage projects.
  • Lead complex multi-investigator research projects and oversee research teams.
  • Forge partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the institute's research agenda.
  • Communicate the institute's work to broad audiences through various channels.
  • Collaborate with the faculty director on matters of business development and finance for the Institute.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Water Resource Science or Engineering, Earth System Science, Computational Social Sciences, or Data Science.
  • At least 5 years of research project management experience and a demonstrated track record of securing externally-funded research from federal funding agencies or industry.
  • Working knowledge of water prediction models and publicly available water data.
  • Management skills, leadership experience, and familiarity with federally-mandated research compliance practices.
What We Offer

This is a two-year grant-supported appointment with renewals contingent upon success in securing external funding. The position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy.
