Reports To: Director of Homeless Services

Supervised Positions: Residential Behavioral Health Specialists

The Residential Team Leader at the VA Emergency Shelter is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of a secure, hygienic, and supportive environment tailored specifically for homeless veterans. This role involves implementing a Housing First approach to assist veterans in achieving their goals, enhancing independent living skills, and securing permanent housing solutions. The Team Leader will ensure that the staff delivers a high standard of service to veterans while fostering a harm reduction and trauma-informed atmosphere to support their mental health recovery and sobriety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure productivity standards are met with a minimum of five documented interactions per day.
  2. Support and guide Behavioral Health Specialists (BHS) to optimize their performance, including effective management of personnel matters such as hiring, coaching, and evaluations.
  3. Provide comprehensive orientation and training for new hires while supervising on-site staff to ensure compliance with VA contract expectations.
  4. Oversee scheduling and service delivery, ensuring quality care and collaboration with other agencies.
  5. Maintain facility coverage during emergencies, holidays, and staff absences, demonstrating flexibility in work hours as needed.
  6. Ensure a clean and safe environment within the Emergency Shelter, adhering to health and safety standards.
  7. Conduct thorough orientations for new admissions and manage all necessary intake and discharge documentation promptly.
  8. Encourage and instruct veterans in developing responsible living habits and improving their psychosocial functioning.
  9. Facilitate a drug-free environment that promotes social interaction and the rehabilitation of veterans.
  10. Effectively manage crisis situations and document incidents in accordance with agency policies.
  11. Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the delivery of individualized care plans for veterans.
  12. Supervise medication inventory and maintain accurate records as per Residential Care Policy.
  13. Manage supplies and budgetary guidelines to ensure the provision of nutritious meals and snacks.
  14. Participate in regular meetings and maintain communication with VA and community providers.

Position Requirements:

  1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in human services, with a preference for experience working with veterans and individuals facing homelessness.
  2. Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage budgets effectively.
  3. Strong communication and documentation skills, along with basic computer proficiency.
  4. A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle are required.
  5. Completion of all necessary training and a valid annual TB test are mandatory.
