The Clinical Dietitian plays a crucial role in delivering nutritional support to clients living with HIV. Under the guidance of the Nurse Supervisor, the responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing nutrition care and counseling strategies tailored to the needs of HIV-infected individuals, addressing conditions such as newly diagnosed HIV, wasting syndrome, diabetes, renal failure, and more.
  • Conducting thorough nutritional evaluations as per the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and formulating personalized nutrition care plans for patients.
  • Utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to encourage patients in achieving their dietary goals.
  • Providing educational resources and counseling to promote healthy eating habits, especially for those on a limited budget.
  • Delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy as indicated by healthcare providers.
  • Maintaining regular follow-ups with patients to support their progress and address any challenges they may face.
  • Managing a caseload of patients receiving nutrition services, ensuring consistent communication and support.

Coordination of Nutrition Supplementation:
  • Conducting initial assessments and ongoing evaluations to determine the need for nutritional supplements.
  • Facilitating prior authorization processes for Medicaid participants and coordinating with pharmacies to ensure patients receive necessary supplements.
  • Resolving any issues that may arise between patients, pharmacies, and insurance providers.

Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Working alongside a multidisciplinary team and participating in case discussions as required.
  • Documenting all nutritional interactions in the appropriate systems.
  • Providing supervision to dietetic students when necessary.
  • Coordinating with external nutrition programs to support patients.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field is required, with a Master's degree preferred. Candidates must be a Registered Dietitian with the ADA and possess 1 to 3 years of documented experience in outpatient nutrition services for medically compromised populations.


Language Proficiency:

Strong reading and comprehension skills in medical terminology are essential. Fluency in both written and spoken English is required, with Spanish language skills considered an asset.
