Overview
The Electrical Engineering team at General Dynamics Electric Boat is engaged in the design and development of electrical components and systems for the propulsion plants of VIRGINIA Class submarines. This role involves collaboration with various engineering disciplines and stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of advanced technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Conducting component engineering tasks, including the formulation of technical specifications and functional requirements based on overarching system needs.
- Collaborating with prime contractors to enhance design modifications and optimize power conversion equipment.
- Assessing vendor hardware and software design documentation to ensure adherence to established requirements.
- Overseeing vendor management and technical product development initiatives.
- Facilitating the successful integration of electrical and mechanical systems aboard submarines.
- Supporting the integration of design modifications into the VIRGINIA electric plant, including participation in compatibility testing.
- Reviewing technical documentation related to interfacing ship designs.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Proficient understanding of power electronic devices, inverter and converter circuits, and feedback regulation controllers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Preferred:
- Experience in managing complex projects and operations.
- Background in component engineering and system integration for power conversion systems.
- Proven ability to author technical documents such as calculations, test procedures, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with power distribution systems, especially in a naval context.
- Previous experience with the U.S. Navy in an electrical or electronics capacity.
- Certification as a nuclear plant operator (EOOW/EWS certified) is advantageous.
- Academic background in power systems and experience in a shipyard environment.
