JUNIOR PRODUCT MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST - SOFTWARE

POSITION SUMMARY

DEPARTMENT: Product Management REPORTS TO: Product Manager II FLSA: Exempt

PRIMARY ROLE: The Junior Product Management Specialist - Software will engage in daily technical product management functions to assist both internal and external stakeholders with EFJohnson software product initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of our sophisticated integrated radio and repeater telecommunications solutions and resolve software-related challenges.
  • Support the creation of innovative software products and functionalities.
  • Act as a technical operations analyst to collect and evaluate various software product and feature requirements for engineering teams.
  • Draft product specifications for EFJohnson's advanced telecommunications offerings.
  • Develop prototypes for new products and features, establish testing protocols, and collaborate with clients to gather feedback on initial offerings.
  • Create a compliance matrix that outlines the technical compatibility between hardware, software, and accessories.
  • Oversee requirement gathering in Jira and collaborate with the engineering team to ensure timely delivery of requirements.
  • Coordinate beta testing of new products and features with clients, collecting feedback on software functionalities to inform product development.
  • Work alongside the IT team to manage the product catalog and facilitate product setup in configuration management for streamlined ordering.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all internal product management technical and support inquiries.
  • Identify internal technical and operational support needs from various departments and align them with market/customer demands.
  • Act as the product advocate for the sales channel, inside sales, and field service teams, providing insights on product offerings, ordering processes, and technical features.
  • Contribute to the generation of marketing materials by supplying the necessary technical content and soliciting feedback from sales, customers, and internal operations to enhance product success.
  • Assist with RFP responses, focusing on technical requirements, product availability, pricing evaluations, and identifying commitment liabilities.
  • Support strategic sourcing of products from both new and existing suppliers, discussing technical specifications to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Conduct analyses for the product and executive teams regarding product sales, margins, and other key performance metrics.
  • Adhere to the established Approval Matrix.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • A Master's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or Business is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Engineering/Product Management or a related field.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A collaborative mindset, teamwork orientation, and a drive for excellence are essential for this role.
  • Ability to grasp technical details quickly and develop comprehensive product knowledge.
  • Comfortable navigating complex technical aspects of products.
  • Capable of collaborating with engineering teams to create software prototypes and demonstrate product functionalities to clients.
  • Proficient in working with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and customers.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment and adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in software development in any programming language is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with web development and database technologies such as SQL, Python, and UX/UI is highly desirable.
  • Experience using Jira for requirement management.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas, analyses, and findings effectively.
  • Knowledge of two-way radios and systems is a plus.
  • Competence in wireless systems technology, project management, and business analysis is advantageous.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 15% travel may be required.
