Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

Join our team at Klamath Tribal Health and Family Services as a Peer Support Specialist, where you will play a vital role in providing outreach, recovery support, and identification services to Native Americans/Alaskan Natives impacted by substance abuse, mental illness, and/or incarceration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support behavioral health treatment, recovery support, and prevention efforts by promoting alcohol and drug-free lifestyles, mental health promotion, and stigma reduction.
  • Collaborate with the YFGC Clinical Team, agencies, support networks, and community providers to address the social support needs of clients.
  • Develop professional relationships with organizations, providers, recovery community, and advocacy groups.
  • Connect participants with recovery-based supports, including self-help support, cultural events, educational opportunities, and other resources that promote personal growth.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians to provide outreach to adult clients who demonstrate low engagement and/or missed appointments.
  • Serve as a supportive resource for individuals inquiring or seeking behavioral health services for themselves or family members.
  • Support YFGC Clinicians with admission and discharge planning for clients needing detox, hospitalization, residential placement, subacute care, or transition from incarceration.
  • Transport individuals as needed using a Government Services Administration (GSA) vehicle.
  • Maintain documentation of peer support efforts in the electronic health record.
  • Work an irregular schedule, as needed.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent within two (2) years of hire.
  • State Certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) Certification, or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Lived experience in one or more of the following ways: recovery from substance use dependence, managing a serious mental health condition, or being a close family member of someone with a substance use or serious mental health disorder.
  • Model a clean and sober lifestyle both on and off the job.
  • One (1) year experience working with adults with addiction, re-entering the community from incarceration, and/or mental health challenges.
  • Computer experience, with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, and working in a networked environment.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License, good driving record, and insurable by Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services' vehicle insurance policy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with regulations.
  • Submit to a background and character investigation, as per Tribal policy.
  • Annual TB skin testing and adhere to KTHFS staff immunization policy in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control immunization recommendations for healthcare workers.
  • Acquire and maintain BLS certification within 180 days of hire.
  • Accept the responsibility of a mandatory reporter in accordance with the Klamath Tribes Juvenile Ordinance Title 2, Chapter 15.64 and General Council Resolution #.
  • Be free from exclusion from providing Federal health care benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, as per the Federal OIG and GSA exclusion lists.

  • Active member of the recovery community.
  • Knowledge and adherence to ethics and professional boundaries.
